How To Prepare A Funeral Service

By Paul Silva

Death is one of the harsh realities of our existence that we are never ready for. Holding a service in memory of the deceased is a very old tradition that has undergone a lot of changes. Conventionally, the funeral service used to take place at the church with chanting of solemn hymns and a speech. But, the practice has witnessed significant change over time as a large number of people now wish to opt for a customized service for their loved ones.

Organising a funeral service, right after the death of a loved one can be quite a disturbing and painful experience. A general myth that a service is a legal requirement is far from truth as no law makes it compulsory to conduct a funeral service.

Secondly, a majority of people have an erroneous belief that a service can be held only in a church. It is noteworthy that though conventionally such services were held in a church, with the trend of personalizing, many funeral services are being held within the premises of the departed.

Thirdly, such services do not need the presence of either the clergy or the casket and can be conveniently held without either.

With the increase in choice for personal funeral services, it is important to keep the dead person in mind while preparing for it. Music, must be something that is soft, soothing and from the personal choices of the departed. You can either engage a live music band or decide to go with music records.

There is also a growing trend of displaying the personal items of the deceased to show his or her true nature to the whole world. Address is extremely crucial in all funeral services including the personal ones. It could be a poem, a song or a personal speech that reflects upon the dead person.

Lastly, it is recommended to present the people assembled for the funeral with some souvenirs that help them keep the memories of the deceased alive for a long time.
