TV Shows About Fashion

By Shannon Holland

Fashion TV. Fashion TV allows fashion addicts to take in as much fashion on the small screen as they wish and there are many who seemingly can't get enough. Shown in 500 million households throughout the world, this originally French-only channel now airs throughout the world picking up and commenting on global trends and the very latest designs.

The Clothes Show. No longer airing but still quite rightly regarded as a national institution, The Clothes Show caught the imagination of fashion aficionados throughout the UK and still sees its name carried on by the always popular Clothes Show Live taking place each year at the NEC in Birmingham. The show itself focused on teaching viewers how they could dress like the catwalk models on the shown for a fraction of the cost.

What Not To Wear. Originally, a reality based show in the UK, the American version has enjoyed equal success featuring participants who have been nominated to go on the show by family and friends. The show visits shopping malls across the United States observing fashion crimes committed by shoppers. There used to a mix of men and women in the show but men proved to be loss popular and so it went with what worked and now focuses on women only.

Project Runway. Another US-based reality show, Heidi Klum hosts a contest between budding fashion designers. The contestants have a limited amount of time and materials to be as creative as they can possibly be and one of them is limited each week. The show has seen some trouble behind the scenes with a legal battle between television networks but all was settled and the show continues to make waves on the air.

Fashion Police. Fashion Police is another American show which appears on E! It features such well-known co-hosts as Joan Rivers and Kelly Osborne and is a commentary on what went right and what went wrong with celebrity fashion. Two of the most popular segments are entitled Bitch Stole My Look and Starlet or Streetwalker. The former is where two celebrities were caught wearing the same dress on separate occasions whereas Starlet or Streetwalker is a guessing game where a photograph is shown to the guests bearing the image of a dishevelled individuals and the guest has to state whether they think it is a celebrity or not. If they guess wrong, they come under a severe amount of ridicule.
